The Club Company
History
The company was originally floated by way of IPO on the London Stock Exchange in 1996. The business was a portfolio of 22 operational sites across the UK and Western Europe.
Following a strategic review, all sites without Health and Fitness planning consent were disposed of between 2000 and 2003. In April 2004 the company was taken private by way of MBO backed by Legal and General Ventures. In 2006 the company was acquired by Boundary Capital backing a second MBO. Since Lone Star acquired the company in 2014, The Club Company has invested significantly in its own portfolio as well as acquiring new sites (Wharton Park in December 2015, Woodbury Park in November 2016 and Witney Lakes Resort in May 2017).
In May 2018, The Club Company was acquired by Epiris LLP, a leading private equity firm.

Wellness and Wellbeing
Our Wellness concept is focused on achieving results, and the first step in joining our clubs is to identify each member’s realistic goals and set a personalised training programme. One of our fully qualified Wellness instructors monitors the member’s progress and offers complimentary reviews of their training programme when necessary.
The high number and the variety of weekly group fitness exercise classes reflects the increasing demand for that type of training, combining effective workouts with fun.
Championship Golf Courses
Our championship golf courses offer a variety of challenges for all level of golfers. We promote competitive golf through monthly medals and knock-out tournaments, as well as social golf including fun competitions and informal roll up afternoons and evenings.
Golf membership with The Club Company includes reciprocal access to all golf courses within the group (excluding Castle Royle which is a members-only club). Other benefits of golf membership include complimentary access to your home club’s health & fitness facilities, as well as discounted membership rates for your family, and of course the opportunity to hold an official club handicap and participate in club competitions.
