Mary has been a cherished member of the club since it first opened in 2005. Over the years, she’s faced extraordinary challenges with courage and determination, inspiring many others with her resilience.

When Mary began experiencing menopause, it hit her hard. “I really wondered what was happening to me,” she recalls. “I was all over the place - crying, feeling depressed, having hot sweats day and night. I was so miserable, I thought I was going mad!”

During those difficult times, health and fitness became a crucial anchor. “Exercise played a big part in keeping me focused and giving me structure,” Mary explains. “It was also the conversations - chatting to other members helped me form lasting friendships.”

For Mary, the key wasn’t spending hours in the gym but finding activities she loved. “I prefer classes to the gym. The dance classes really give me a buzz - with the music, I lose myself, and it’s so good for my head.”

Reflecting on what being a member of the club has meant to her, Mary doesn’t hesitate: “It’s been so good for me - a bit of a lifesaver, and it still is.”

Mary’s advice for other women just starting their menopause journey is simple but powerful: “Keep up the exercise, have coffee, and talk to others. Be kind to yourself.”

Even 20 years on, Mary’s commitment to her wellbeing is unwavering. “I’m 20 years older, but I’m still there most days - and enjoying most of it!” she says with a smile.

Most importantly, Mary has found a sense of community that’s helped her through every stage of life. “Absolutely,” she says firmly when asked if the club has given her connection and support. It’s clear that for Mary, the club has been more than just a place to exercise - it’s been a sanctuary of strength, friendship, and hope.
